SST's Top 10 Myths About Baseball Training

5. "To get a strong throwing arm, I have to do a lot of bicep work"

Yes, the bicep is part of your arm, but in the process of throwing a baseball the biceps do not play any important roles. When looking at bicep exercises, they work by bending at the elbow and bringing your hand close to your shoulder. If you find yourself performing this movement when throwing a baseball, it means that you are in BIG TROUBLE. The reality is, while a bulging bicep looks good on the beach, it does not translate on the baseball field.1

In actual fact, the triceps is responsible for 70% of the upper arm2. In addition, every arm swing you take when throwing a ball, the arm gets extended and the triceps shorten. In addition, building strong triceps also make your arm look bigger for the beach. Another important muscle of the arm is the forearm. It is the final muscle utilized before releasing a ball.

The forearm provides the arm with an extra snap on the ball when released. To sum up, there is no relation between arm speed and having big biceps. Mainly the triceps and the forearms are the main muscles in the arm utilized for throwing. As a result, this myth is clearly BUSTED.
